The Nigerian film industry is in mourning following the tragic passing of one of its beloved actors, Pope Odonwodo, known to fans as Junior Pope.

After a harrowing ordeal that saw him oscillating between life and death, his demise has been finally confirmed, leaving a void in the hearts of many.

The confirmation of his passing came after a period of uncertainty where conflicting reports about his condition circulated.

Major news platforms across Nigeria, including FREEDOM TIMES had earlier reported that he passed away shortly after involved in a boat accident and he had been taken to the mortuary.

In a dramatic turn of events, a mortuary attendant later observed signs of life in the actor, leading to claims that he was still breathing and subsequently alive.

The Actors Guild of Nigeria, led by President Emeka Rollas, had initially offered a glimmer of hope by announcing that Junior Pope was alive and undergoing treatment.

In a spirit to give its readers update information, FREEDOM TIMES also reported the update posted by Actors Guild of Nigeria.

This announcement, however, was later retracted, as Rollas deleted the Instagram post that carried the news.

The initial report of Junior Pope’s death emerged on the evening of April 10, shared by filmmaker Samuel Olatunji.

Despite being rushed to the hospital from the mortuary, where hope was briefly reignited, it was there that Junior Pope was ultimately pronounced dead.

The news has sent shockwaves through the entertainment community, with tributes pouring in from fans and colleagues alike.

Junior Pope was a versatile actor whose career spanned over a decade, marked by memorable performances that showcased his range and depth.

His untimely departure has not only robbed the industry of a talented artist but has also raised concerns about the conditions under which actors work, as some reports suggest that a boat mishap during a film shoot may have led to the events culminating in his death.

As the industry grapples with this loss, discussions about safety standards on set have been reignited, with many calling for better measures to protect the well-being of actors.

Junior Pope’s legacy, however, will live on through his extensive body of work and the impact he had on Nollywood and its audience.

The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries has strongly denounced the ridicule surrounding viral videos of member testimonies, asserting that the church would never fabricate such accounts.

In response to the viral video floating on social media, the head of Public Relations and Media, Pastor Chidi Louis, explained that one of the testimonies was a recounting of a dream, which was taken out of context to discredit the church.

Pastor Louis urged the public to watch the full testimonies on the church’s official platform for clarity.

He added that some bloggers maliciously edit videos to mock the work of God and warned against believing everything seen online.

Freedom Times News gathered that these remarks followed the circulation of testimonies deemed incredible by many viewers, including one where a member claimed a lion had saved them and another where a woman said she overpowered armed robbers and seized their AK-47 rifles.

The church urged Nigerians to be skeptical of what they see online, warning that some bloggers deliberately misrepresent content for sensationalism.

A male member also described surviving a kidnapping, machete attacks, and gunshots without injury.

Israel Adeleke

Popular Nigerian actress, model, and television host, Kehinde Bankole, has revealed the only condition that would make her accept a nude role in a movie.

She disclosed this during a recent podcast appearance, when she was asked whether she would be willing to perform nude scenes on screen.

In response, the actress explained that, she believes nudity and explicit scenes are not always essential for conveying a compelling narrative in films.

She elucidated further that, such content should only be included if it genuinely serves the story.

She said, “As far as it is intelligently required, not just because it is required. Sometimes, you do not need nudity, you do not need excessive kissing, you do not need all of that to tell a good story.

“For example, if a couple has been married for 10 years, you do not need to start the scene by showing them in a sexual act.”

Although the actress expressed concern that her opinion might be misinterpreted, but noted that she would only take on nude roles if they are “artistically required”.

“I do not like that question because the answer would always be taken out of context. This is the internet, after all. I will just say that I can do what is artistically required,” she added.

Bankole made her entertainment debut in Miss Commonwealth Nigeria 2003, then proceeded with MBGN 2004. She was named Revelation of the Year at the 2009 Best of Nollywood Awards, two years after her first screen feature in Wale Adenuga’s Super Story.

Since then, she has starred in numerous Nollywood productions, including ‘Adire’, ‘Sister’, and ‘Funmilayo Ransome Kuti’.
